newquay trenance: DREW CREEK

Drew is currently the Green Mayor of Newquay, where he has been a Town Councillor since 2021. He has lived in Newquay for over 15 years with his wife and three children and is a local governor at Trenance Primary School. As Chief Operating Officer for Community Pharmacy Cornwall, Drew works county-wide to ensure good community provision, and also sits on the Integrated Care Board of Cornwall NHS .
With a strong track record of prudent financial management, Drew and his fellow Green Councillors in Newquay have cut back on wasteful spending while succeeding in protecting vital community services. He feels a strong connection with Newquay’s local environment and wonderful community and wants to do everything he can to make Newquay a sustainable place to live and visit for future generations.
Malabar, Shortlanesend and Gloweth: Karen La Borde
Karen is Truro City Councillor and Kenwyn Parish Councillor with lots of practical knowledge of local issues.
She’s worked tirelessly with many local groups, including Pydar redevelopment working group, Truro and Kenwyn neighbourhood plan steering group, and stakeholder groups and stewardship groups for Langarth Garden Village. She wrote and proposed a net zero strategy for Truro City Council and a nature recovery strategy for Truro
She’s been a trustee of the local community centre, attended many residents’ meetings and consultations, and taken action in response to many residents’ concerns on local issues such as footpaths, speeding, telephone boxes and planning.
As a former businesswoman, Karen combines a responsible approach to spending with a passion for improving local services and protecting the environment.

Wadebridge East & St Minver: Amanda Pennington

Amanda was a Town Councillor in Wadebridge for 11 years from 2011 to 2022 and the Mayor of Wadebridge from 2021 to 2022.
A real community champion, she spearheaded the devolution of the library, led on a new skate park project for local youth, and secured over £150,000 of funding for the Chy Ryn Parc housing development. She also proposed the motion to ban glyphosates and other harmful chemicals on Town Council land , and Wadebridge became one of the first pesticide free towns in Cornwall.
Amanda also campaigned to keep Wadebridge Sports Centre open when it was threatened with closure in 2021, and created a community group that successfully bid for the centre to pass into community ownership.
Penryn: Dean Evans
Dean has a wealth of experience, deep commitment to community, and a proven track record of environmental stewardship His career spans nearly four decades in environmental and public service, including 23 years working on waste management and environmental protection with various County Councils and 9 years with the Environment Agency.
As a Green Party Town Councillor since 2021, Dean has served in several key local partnerships, such as the Community Area Partnership led by Cornwall Council, the Maritime Branch Line Stakeholder Group, and the Falmouth Green Corridor Forum. Through these roles, he’s worked to enhance green infrastructure, champion sustainable transport, and protect the natural heritage that makes Cornwall unique.

Falmouth Arwenack: Jackie Walkden

Jackie has been a Green Party member for 10 years and is interested in local issues that affect the daily lives of residents. She has a post-graduate qualification in town and country planning and can find her way round local planning policy issues.
Jackie cares deeply about the natural environment and set up the Mid-Cornwall Climate and Eco Hub which aims to help raise awareness about the climate and biodiversity crises. She is also an active member of the Falmouth Speedwatch group, volunteers at Tregoniggie Woods and is part of the Tree Champion group set up by the Council.
Lanivet, Blisland & Bodmin St. Lawrence: Len Croney
Len has spent his life working to improve our environment, in public, parks, in planning and writing strong environmental and planning policies for Local Authorities and for Natural England. He knows how important having a healthy green and natural environment are to our health and wellbeing.
Since setting up his own business Len has worked on many “Green” projects including reviewing pilot energy saving and C02 reduction measures in the South West and Northern Europe. This work was to determine what measures really work well, and how the lessons from this can be adopted more widely. Len aims to use his experience in this field to deliver a better environment in Cornwall.

St. Columb Major, St. Mawgan & St. Wenn: Sarah Thomson

Sarah has been an elected Newquay Town Councillor for over two years and sits on the steering group for Climate Action in Newquay.
As a Councillor Sarah has written a 10 year management plan for Priory Woods and worked with Forests for Cornwall in tree planting on streets in Newquay, along with creating and planting a library garden and running a monthly gardening Q&A group at the library.
Sarah’s home is a Soil Association organic certified smallholding that provides botanicals and fruit to Atlantic Distillery Ltd, which she runs with her husband, so is well versed in issues impacting upon small businesses.
Sarah wants to offer a new fresh perspective to St Columb Major, St Mawgan and St Wenn with a practical hands on approach.
