OUR EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Tom Scott, Coordinator and acting Press Officer

Tom is a writer based in Falmouth (you can read some of his work at Byline Times). He first got involved with the Green Party through campaigning on the climate emergency and environmental issues near his home in Cornwall. He stood as the Green Party candidate for Truro and Falmouth in 2019, and since 2021 has been a member of the national party’s Executive Committee as Campaigns Coordinator (for non-electoral campaigns).

Tom taught on writing courses at Falmouth University until 2024, and writes poetry as well as journalism. In 2023 he co-curated an exhibition and book project, 26 Places in Cornwall, which used poetry and photography to unlock the secrets of language, history and legend embedded in Cornish places and their resonant names.

Philippa Purchase, Elections Coordinator

I’ve lived and worked in the South West in Dorset and Devon since 1991, and moved to Cornwall in 2018. I retired in 2017 but prior to that I worked for Dorset County Council as an IT Project Manager.

I joined the Green Party in 2015 and have held the roles of Membership Secretary, Co-ordinator and Elections Officer. I attended the Green Party campaign school in 2019 to improve my understanding of how to run election campaigns.

I was elected a Town Councillor on Bude-Stratton Town Council in 2021 and am currently the Lead Councillor for Climate Change at the council. Since my election I’ve been involved in work to help the council reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, bring in more nature-friendly land management approaches, support school children with subsidised holiday scheme places and save a much-loved local shop from closure.

My community activities include volunteering with the local Refill Shop, Friends of the Earth and Sustainable Bude. Most recently I have helped set up a Community Larder, distributing surplus food from supermarkets and the gleaning network to local residents.

Wella Morris, Equalities & Diversity Officer and joint Disputes Resolution Officer

Wella lives in Camborne with his husband, is semi-retired and semi-disabled, a bard of the Cornish Gorsedh, a Cornish teacher and is working with others to publish the Bible in Cornish in the next few years. He has published a lunar calendar every year since 1987, when he lived in an income-sharing community. He has been a member of the party for over twenty years, and has previously been Treasurer. The climate emergency is the reason he is in politics, but he also believes strongly in our economic and social policies, hopes to rejoin the EU as soon as possible, and campaigns for a Cornish National Assembly. His faerie name is Moonwizard, and his bardic name is Dragon Wyrdh.

Jo Poland, Joint Disputes Resolution Officer

A member of the Green Party since the early 1980’s, Jo was formerly a Green Parish Councillor in Sussex and remains an activist. Her career in the voluntary sector saw her working with Citizens Advice and Butterfly Conservation. She now runs a successful volunteer conservation group with like-minded friends, the Red River Rescuers in Camborne.

Jo is interested in the relationship between green and blue spaces and health and wellbeing, and she
volunteers for University of Exeter as a public consultee in this area. She enjoys working for nature, walking in nature, learning French, reading and playing table tennis.
